Kuélap, fortified citadel, millennial legacy of the Chachapoyas culture that developed from 800 AD. C to 1470 d. C. Its imposing walls, 19 meters high, are the reflection of advanced engineering and monumental architecture. Due to its strategic location, the Kuélap archaeological complex was designed to defend itself against other ethnic groups. Just look at its great lithic wall of three entrances that are narrowing as you go. Inside Kuélap you can admire up to 420 circular stone houses with friezes in the shape of rhombuses and zigzag. From the top, the green mountains show us that nature privileged this place. Arriving at the archaeological complex is a journey of adventure.

DAY 01- JAEN AIRPORT TRANSFER TO CHACHAPOYAS

7:25 AM Reception at Shumba Jaén airport
08:00 AM Transfer to the city of Chachapoyas on a trip that lasts approximately 4 hours
12:30 PM Arrival and installation at the chosen hotel in Chachapoyas.

DAY 02 - FORTIFIED CITY OF KUELAP

8:30AM: Pick up from the hotel and departure to the town of “Nuevo Tingo”
9:30AM:Arrival at the ticket office to acquire the tickets and continue 10 more minutes by car to the platform of departure of the Gondela to Kuelap
10:00AM: Landing of passengers in the area called La Malca, where you will get the entrance tickets to Kuelap, passengers register and start the 1km walk (30 minutes) to reach the archaeological site of Kuelap, the guided tour takes 2 hours approximately.
13:00PM: Walk back to the tourist hostel, where the cable car boarding platform is located.
15:00PM: Lunch at the Sabores del Utcubamba restaurant in Nuevo Tingo.
16:00PM: Return to the city of Chachapoyas.
17:00PM: Arrival in Chachapoyas, end of the tour

DAY 03 – GOCTA FALL

(It is recommended to do this tour with horse, it has an additional cost of 40 soles or 13usd approx.)

8:30AM: Pick up from the hotel and departure to the town of Cocachimba 1 hour by car.
9:30AM: Pick up from the hotel and departure to the town of Cocachimba 1 hour by car.
10:00AM: Walk of 2.30 hours to reach the Gocta Waterfall and admire its unique beauty, take pictures and / or take a bath (optional since the water temperature is 8 ° C) return to the town of Cocachimba to have lunch at the local restaurant
15:00PM: Lunch and return to Chachapoyas.
17:00PM: Arrival to Chachapoyas, end of the tour

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELING TO CHACHAPOYAS

Chachapoyas is at 2334 m.a.s.l. with average annual temperature at day 21 ° C and at night 12 ° C. Due to climate change, the climate in the Amazon region is very variable, we currently receive visitors throughout the Year, being the most recommended months between June to November.

We suggest bringing windbreakers or waterproof jackets with hood, especially in the rainy season, or warm clothes for the nights, long pants, slip-resistant, water-resistant and high-waisted shoes in the rainy season, binoculars, brimmed hat wide, sticks or walking sticks, sunscreen, a small backpack to carry during your excursions, your water bottle, camera, medications, etc.

VACCINES: To visit this region it is not necessary to have vaccines for Yellow Fever or Malaria since this region does not belong to the endemic area affected by these diseases, due to its higher altitude and cold / temperate climate.

GONDALAS TO KUELAP OPERATIVITY: Keep in mind that the Kuelap Cable Cars do not work every day of the year for maintenance and in high seasons it is recommended to book the tour to Kuelap in advance.

DIA 03 - KARAJIA SARCOPHAGUS AND QUIOCTA CAVERN

8:00AM: Pick up from the hotel and departure to the Quiocta cavern, 1 hour 30 minutes by car to the parking area, 270 meters walk to the entrance of the cave, the visit lasts. Approximately 2 hours, where thousands of stalactites and stalagmites can be seen.
12:00PM: Transfer to the restaurant located in the town of Lamud for lunch
